Arctic waterfowl are perhaps some of the most poorly understood waterfowl species in North America and much remains unknown regarding their distribution, population status, and habitat usage.

The Arctic Waterfowl State of Knowledge Report provides a synthesis of our current knowledge on waterfowl populations in the Canadian Arctic west of Hudson Bay.

The Arctic Waterfowl State of Knowledge Report prepared by NPS:

  • Determined where birds are located within marine areas;
  • Summarized how Arctic waterfowl are using these areas;
  • Identified how the information gained could be used to establish protected areas; and
  • Identified current information gaps.
